Although the Vivobook S14 OLED by ASUS is not as good as the Space Edition Zenbook14X, it still comes close. The Vivobook S14OLED isn't as fancy or has a secondary display like its space-themed sibling, but it does share some design elements with it. It also features a beautiful OLED display.Let's take a deeper dive and find out how the Evo-certified laptop performs in everyday use.
The Vivobook S14OLED weighs in at 1.5kg, and is 18.9mm thick. It is not the lightest or thinnest unit, but it is very portable and easy to use.The Indie black unit I reviewed has the ASUS Vivobook branding embossed on the lid. This gives it a more 3D appearance.
With one hand, the lid opens to reveal the large keyboard and trackpad. The bright orange-hued escape keys grab attention instantly. The enter key also features a striped pattern if you look closely. The screen is framed by thin bezels along three sides. A slightly wider chin bears ASUS Vivobook branding. The webcam is found at the usual spot on top of the screen. Next to it is the physical slider key which toggles the privacy shutter.
You have more options for viewing angles thanks to the screen's 180-degree opening. The fit and finish of the screen are great and there is no problem with flex.Because of its design, the bottom half of this device appears wedge-shaped. It can also cut into your hands when you move it around. The matte, smooth body can easily get smudged. This is especially noticeable on dark-coloured devices.
The left side shows a single USB A port, which is located next to the cooling vents. All the rest are on the right. You'll find a 3.5mm audio and a second USB Type A port. There are also two Type C ports that support Thunderbolt 4 and an HDMI port.It doesn't have an Ethernet port. That's normal. But I miss having an SD card reader.
This laptop's main feature is its 14-inch OLED display, 16:10 format with 2.8K resolution. It also has a 90Hz refresh rate.It is extremely accurate in colour, with 100 percent coverage of DCI-P3 colours. The display also shines at 600 nits.It has solid credentials, including TUV, VESA DisplayHDR True Black and Pantone certifications. These certifications translate into sharp, vivid visuals with razor-sharp text and media that pops. The Vivobook OLED S14 should prove to be a good option for anyone who works with images for colour correction and media consumption.
The distinctively-coloured escape key notwithstanding, the Vivobook S14's keyboard and trackpad are large and intuitive, allowing for easy interaction with the device. The keys are spaced well, have a slight curve for text input and provide ample travel.A three-step backlight is also available on the keyboard. The power key and the delete keys have been moved to the top right corner. The power button has a fingerprint scanner embedded in it. It works fast and accurately to grant you access. There are no complaints about the trackpad, which is smooth and large.
Windows 11 Home is available on the laptop, as well as Microsoft Office Home and Student Edition.ASUS preloads several tools and utilities. The MyASUS utility is a notable one.You can customize many aspects of your laptop, including power, performance, audio, video and input devices. You can also choose different battery charging modes, create fan profiles, adjust the refresh rate and set colour profiles for your display. You can also avail promotional offers such as an extra 25GB on Dropbox, free McAfee Live Safe and Privacy Guard trials, discounts on Ashampoo PDF Pro 3 and Acrobat pro DC.
The laptop is equipped with a 12th-gen Intel Core i7-12700H processor and 16 gigs of RAM. It also comes with a 500GB NVMe SSD storage.Intel Iris Xe handles graphics. This laptop is not meant to be used for serious gaming. However, it can handle the typical productivity-based tasks such as multitasking, multitasking, and running multiple Chrome tabs at once.It runs smoothly, doesn't get too hot when stressed and barely breaks into sweat. The benchmark numbers also show good results. The battery life is excellent, with the 70Whr capacity delivering approximately 6-7 hours of regular use and the 90W Type-C charger charging it in less than 2 hours.
The ASUS Vivobook S14OLED is priced at Rs 74990 and delivers a lot for the price. The laptop scores well on performance, battery life, and keyboard ergonomics.Of course, the OLED screen is what might attract you to it. It's beautiful and very capable, adding to the vast array of features and capabilities that make the laptop an all-round entertainment and work machine.
