OnePlus 10T review

The latest smartphone by the brand, the OnePlus 10T, is available in India starting at Rs 49.999. The OnePlus 10T is a strong offering in terms of specs and features. It is also among the few phones that have the latest Snapdragon 8+ Generation 1 mobile platform. In a performance comparison, I concluded that the OnePlus 10T was one of the most powerful phones currently on the market. Let's now take a closer look at this device and see if it lives up to expectations in other areas. Continue reading to see if the OnePlus 10T really is worth all the hype.

The OnePlus 10T is a great performer. It also has a reliable software experience, long-lasting battery life, and is backed by a reliable warranty. Only the phone's flaws are magnified by its poor choice in camera hardware, which is not worth its price. In the design department, the OnePlus 10T has many similarities to the OnePlus 10 Pro ( Review). The OnePlus 10T has a glossy finish while the 10 Pro had a matte finish. The devices are very similar, barring that. The 10T has its more expensive sibling's unique stove-top-like camera array. The 10T does not have the Hasselblad branding. Also, the position of the LED flash module and the tertiary sensor has been changed. To my dismay, the device does not include an alert slider on its side. This component has been essential to OnePlus' brand identity for a long time.It is also difficult to tell the difference between the 10T and the 10 Pro from a distance. The bottom is where you will find the USB Type-C port and speaker grille as well as dual-SIM card tray and dual-SIM slot. The power button can be found on the right side of my phone, just below my thumb. The volume rocker is located towards the left fascia. The display aspect of the phone has a 6.7-inch FHD+ (2.412x1,080), Fluid MOLED panel. It can refresh at 120Hz. The display is not compatible with LTPO 2.0 technology, but can oscillate between 60Hz to 120Hz. The OnePlus 10T tries its best to emulate the OnePlus 10 Pro's excellent viewing experience. This panel is HDR10+ compatible, has a 10-bit depth and a peak brightness of up 950nits. I was impressed by the detail available for OTT viewing when I watched a few episodes The Witcher. The edges of this screen are also flat unlike the OnePlus 10 Pro's curved display. The punch-hole at the top of the panel is not noticeable and the surrounding bezels are very thin.Optics-wise, there is a 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor on the phone. This sensor is supported by an 8MP ultra wide and 2MP macro sensors. The camera setup of the OnePlus 10T's camera is rudimentary considering the cost. The primary sensor of the smartphone has been used multiple times on other smartphones, such as the OnePlus Nord 2T ( Review). Images taken with the OnePlus 10T are clear and beautiful, as long as you have enough lighting.Despite the excellent detail, the images look a little too saturated, as is the case with many OnePlus phones. A smartphone this affordable can expect a good dynamic range and decent exposure levels. The AI-based scene enhance toggle can produce a slightly processed look with bright colours. You also have the option to crop in the 50MP standard mode, which is better than the 12.5MP default pixel-binned images.

The 8MP resolution of the ultra-wide sensor does not produce a lot of detail in its photos. The photos have a soft look due to the fact that the focus is not sharp around the edges. The colours are kept more harmoniously in the frame than the primary shooter. It is not a great macro sensor and the 2MP photos are not as good as phones with macro capabilities attached to ultra-wide shooters. The low light photography is quite good with lots of details and clear highlights, especially when used with ambient lighting. Although the colours are a bit saturated, I appreciate the fact that there is no excessive oversharpening to reduce the noise in the night sky. The dedicated Night mode allows for more detail, but sometimes the photos are too exposed. The phone is capable of recording video at 4K @ 60fps. Ultra Steady mode can reduce the resolution to 1080p. The 16MP selfie camera on the front can take decent photos with correct exposure in the background and accurate facial details. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 SoC is the fastest in terms of performance. It can be proven through benchmarks that the chipset has the fastest processor unit in Android. This means that the chipset provides the fastest performance possible to complete even the most demanding mobile computing tasks. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipet was slow under sustained loads, but the newer platform is much more capable of running resource-hungry tasks with minimal effort. The Adreno 730 can run BGMI at Extreme frame rate (60fps), with HDR graphics disabled. For a deeper understanding, you can see my performance comparisons for the OnePlus 10T . The OnePlus 10T has 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, 256GB UFS 3.1 storage and no microSD card slots. The device also has a dual-speaker unit that produces a very clear and loud sound. It also comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner and facial recognition technology. Both worked well during my time with it. The OnePlus 10T should be able to use 5G services in India, which will start rolling out this year. However, the 4G LTE speeds in Noida's Jio circle were satisfactory and the microphone as well as the earpiece functioned as expected. OxygenOS 12.1, based upon Android 12, runs on the device. It is currently separate from OPPO ColorOS. Some elements of the UI are borrowed from the former's settings menu and camera app. The interface is clean and has little to no bloatware.

The OnePlus 10T comes with a 4,800mAh battery and a 150W SuperVOOC adapter for charging. I enjoyed a good 7-hour screen-on time while using the device. My usage included BGMI gaming up to an hour, and a few hours of Netflix streaming. The OnePlus 10T's battery life is not an issue. The 150W charger can charge the cell completely in under 20 minutes. You can also get 50 percent of the battery within seven minutes in ideal room temperatures. The OnePlus 10T is a performance champ and the price is comparable to the iQOO ( Review). The smartphone also offers a strong power backup and fast 150W charging speeds. The camera setup is not great and the handset could have used more flexible auxilliary cameras. OnePlus' identity is also lost due to the absence of the alert slider. OnePlus 10T is still a great choice for those looking for a fast Android and clean software.
