The Galaxy S23 is powered by the latest generation of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform and it comes with a 3,900mAh battery. It also supports quick charging.
Display
Samsung's new Galaxy S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra all sport the same 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, up to 1750 nits of peak brightness and support for HDR content. However, many Galaxy S23 owners are unhappy with their displays, due to poor color quality and a lack of depth.
Fortunately, there are ways to make your display produce better colors and improve its overall performance. This includes turning on the Display Settings to enable a few display features that will give you the most resolution out of your Galaxy S23 Ultra's screen.
The Display Settings option also lets you set your device's dynamic refresh rate, which is a great way to save battery life. The default rate is 10-120Hz, but you can switch it to 24-120Hz to make your display even more responsive.
Camera
The Samsung Galaxy S23 comes with a great camera. This is a big part of the reason why it's the best Android phone available today.
The main camera on the S23 uses a 50MP image sensor, which is capable of capturing great images. It also has dual pixel PDAF, OIS, and a 10MP 3x telephoto lens.
In our tests, the camera on the S23 performed well and showed bright and natural colors. But it struggled in some situations, such as when shooting under daylight and adjusting skin tones.
The S23's cameras are not as good as the ones on the top-tier Pixel 7 Pro, but they're very solid overall. They take sharp photos with plenty of detail and well-balanced exposure and contrast, even when capturing RAW images.
Performance
The Galaxy S23 Ultra is powered by a specially tuned and overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. This new chipset comes with improved cooling and larger vapor chambers.
The phone has a single high-performance primary CPU core clocked at 3.36GHz, two low-power CPU cores clocked at 2.02GHz and four power-saving cores clocked at 2.22GHz. The chip also has a specialized NPU for AI and ML acceleration.
Samsung has learned its lesson after the Galaxy S22 chip disaster, where Exynos chips throttled performance to a painful degree. That's why it has opted to use the best SoC available from Qualcomm.
The Galaxy S23 series is expected to feature 36% higher CPU performance, 48% faster GPU and 60% faster NPU. In addition, the phones are expected to feature a brighter screen with better color accuracy in all lighting conditions thanks to Vision Booster technology.
Battery
The Samsung Galaxy S23 has a long list of improvements over the Galaxy S22, including better battery life and improved performance. That makes the S23 a worthwhile upgrade for those looking to trade in an old Galaxy S or Note phone.
DXOMARK tested the S23 Ultra in its battery test, and it scored a whopping 142 points, making it #1 in its Ultra-Premium category. It topped out the ROG Phone 6 (140), Apple's 2021 maxed-out iPhone Pro Max (136) and the Huawei P50 Pro (123).
The S23 series also offers a more efficient system chip, which helps to power the device more efficiently. The S23 and S23 Plus use a physically larger battery than last year's models. The S23 Ultra, on the other hand, uses the same battery capacity as its predecessor, but it has a lot more power to spare thanks to a slew of software optimizations and a more efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor under the hood.
